Hi, I’m Della, with della Q.
I design and create knitting bags and needle cases for knitters and
- Desperately want to be organized.
- Want to spend more time knitting and less time searching for needles.
- Own enough needles and hooks to create a life size Eiffel Tower.
- Have families that told them to clean up their knitting supplies or start looking for another place to live.
- Are totally over bags that are heavy before you put anything into them.
- Love smart designs and quality sewing.
- Simply love beautiful looking accessories.
Although I am not a knitter:
I built this business based upon 15 years of corporate experience managing high profile clients (Nike, Microsoft). Hopefully, I learned a thing or two about how to make my customers happy.
I have been in business for more than 10 years. Yep! I have owned this business longer than my stints at Arthur Andersen, a now sorely missed accounting firm and Avenue A, a digital marketing company.
I listen to my customers and retail storeowners. Those long hours on the show floor (in sometimes not so cute shoes) pay off when I meet people like you so I can hear first hand about your product needs.
I have been working with the same supplier for more than a dog’s year. The local workshop in Vietnam employs amazing sewers, mostly women. The sample maker is a man. I think I frustrate him sometimes with my designs! In case you didn’t catch that. My products are hand sewn. You can read about my last visit and see photos of the sewers on my blog "The Knitting Bag Chronicles" here.
I visit the workshop to ensure the staff is treated well. I won’t say it isn’t a sweatshop. It is Vietnam; everything is hot. Everyone is sweating!
I share a portion of my profits each year with Mekong Quilts, an organization that trains low-income and rural Vietnamese women in the art of quilting.
It is just me. I am the designer, the accountant, the marketer, the dog walker and the janitor. Although Lucky, the dog, and Mattie, the cat come to the office everyday with me, they are pretty worthless when it comes to helping out.
Why do I have della q?
I love business. I love to meet people. I love being creative and data nerdy at the same time. Designing products and marketing messages feeds my creativity. Analyzing the business with Excel pivot tables (very nerdy) rocks me!
Lucky and Mattie can spend the day with me. I travel to Vietnam to buy and Europe to sell.
I have flexibility to skip out a bit early and grab a yoga class or paddleboard on the lake. I can solve a frustrating business problem while going for a run.
I can have left-overs for lunch without someone asking “What’s that smell”?
I want to provide a product that people “have to have”, “love to have,” and collect. I want people to feel good about owning one of my products. I want people to have gorgeous, functional things.
If you are dying to know more, here are three things you don’t know about me...
Despite the fact that eating healthy and exercising are an important part of my life, I LOVE nachos! The more cheese the better. I will even eat those concession stand nachos with the fake cheese sauce.
I paint on my eyebrows. I have superfine hair that is very light. While in college, someone referred to me as the “girl with no eyebrows.” I rarely leave the house without my Mac eye shadow color “Concrete” on my brows.
I have been on ESPN. In college, my cheer squad competed for the national title. Why did they always want to throw me in the air?
